“Discover The Enigma of the Impenetrable”

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a true rainforest thought to be the most biologically diverse forest in all of Africa, owing to its antiquity. Located at the edge of the Albertine Rift in western Uganda, Bwindi is best known for Gorilla Tracking: an estimated more than half the total population of Mountain Gorilla in the world, live in Bwindi. There’s more to Bwindi than just Gorillas; it hosts a total of 11 primate types and 120 mammal species, rivalling the wildlife count in other national parks. The highlight of this safari is the up-close experience with Uganda’s biggest wildlife treasure— the Mountain Gorilla— but there is so much more to do in Bwindi.

We set off from Kampala at 7 a.m. The drive to Bwindi is long but one of the most scenic in this part of the world. Our first stop is at the equator where you can take a bathroom break and stretch your feet between the northern and southern hemispheres of the globe. From here we proceed to the Igongo Cultural Centre for a trip down cultural memory lane, then head into the misty hills of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for an experience unrivalled by anything you will ever see.
Today is the most anticipated day. Gorilla Tracking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The tracking is an adventure that can take anywhere between 1 and 7 hours. You trek through some of the densest jungles in Africa looking for signs of their presence until you find them. Because park authorities are keen on protecting these gentle giants, you are allowed only one hour with the gorillas once you find them. Depending on the time you return to base, there is an option of taking a nature walk on one of the developed trails in the park or doing a Batwa cultural visit.
We set off for Kampala after breakfast, enjoying the beautiful scenery of Western Uganda as we swap stories about the magnificent experience of this trip. Don’t hesitate to book another safari should you feel like going back.
