Mt. Sabyinyo, part of the Virunga volcanic chain, is renowned for its jagged summit nicknamed the “Old Man’s Teeth.” This hike rewards trekkers with a rare opportunity to stand at the meeting point of three countries — Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo — offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding highlands and volcanic peaks. The trail combines steep ascents, rocky ridges, and dense montane forest, making it ideal for experienced hikers seeking a physically demanding yet highly rewarding adventure. 

DETAILED itinerary

Mt. Sabyinyo Hike Begin early from the Ntebeko Visitor Centre (2,347m). After registration and a safety briefing, your Uganda Wildlife Authority guide leads the group into the park. The trail winds through lush bamboo and montane forest, alive with birds and the occasional sighting of golden monkeys. As you ascend, the path becomes rockier and steeper, culminating at the sharply serrated summit. From here, marvel at the three-country view, the vast Virunga volcanoes, and the scenic valleys below. The hike back follows the same trail, allowing time to enjoy the flora, wildlife, and sweeping landscapes along the descent. Trekking Time: 6–8 hours round trip
