Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

Gorilla Trekking Safaris within Rwanda

Volcanoes National Park is the only place offering Gorilla trekking safaris in Rwanda and here, the World’s second highest mountain gorilla population is sheltered. Volcanoes National Park in Northern Province became a Protected Area in 1925 and now has over 12 habituated gorilla families thus 96 permits are issued each day.

Treks in this Park begin with briefing at the Park Headquarters in Kinigi and by 8:00am travellers are transferred to the trailheads by vehicle. Actual treks begin at 8:30am and last 1-4 hours with incredible sights and sounds along the way. Gorilla permits for Rwanda go for about $1500 visitors per person and are only issued by Rwanda Development Board. The process of securing these permits from RDB is sometimes cumbersome hence travellers sometimes use the services of trusted Tour Operators to buy permits on their behalf.
